TUESDAY MARCH 27, 2012
We took notes on context clues today, learning why we do what we do when we encounter unfamiliar words or phrases in our readings. The entire class is very good at context clues, but some of us want to ask parents or immediately look in the dictionary when we encounter unfamiliar words rather than try to figure out the word on our own. That practice won't help us on standardized tests so we need to work on our context clues.
On the homework, don't forget to write the word as well as the page where you find it! I hope all of you copied down the example I put on the board because that is the first word on your list!
Your assignments are:
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY 28/29 MARCH 2012
1. Vocabulary Work: Using The Story of Rolf and the Viking Bow, find the words on the list in your book: pages 108-end. Write the word, the page number, then the sentence. Then tell what you THINK the word means using context clues. (Be ready Friday to tell me what context clue you used to figure out the meaning of the word.)
BRING THE MAORIS TO CLASS FRIDAY.
