Many of you didn't have your 2 books in class today. That was disappointing. Over the break I need for each of you to read both books. Do not wait until January to read the books, it will be too much. Neither book should take you more than a day or two to read. Saladin is about Islam and has a good deal of history in it. Read it carefully because as we begin to talk about the Islamic religion, you will have some background. Do not think that I am trying to convert you to Islam, I am NOT! But we need to understand other religions so we can help the people of those religions see how they can be saved also. There are many reasons for the Muslims to hate Christians as you will see in this book. Our history has not been kind to the Muslims. Watch the news for more information about Muslims in this modern age and see if there are any parallels. Note the map at the beginning of the book. Notice where the largest Muslim population is located. Because they are in what Christians believe is the Holy Land, there will always be friction. History makes modern life so much more interesting!
Don't forget when you are reading Beowulf to read it as if it were in paragraph form instead of prose. Only pause where you see a comma or an endmark. Remember there is a Glossary at the back of the book.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
