FRIDAY MAY 4, 2012
Today, after our final review of Leif Eriksson..., we spent some time with our next book, El Cid. There was a word that, when used incorrectly, could be a curse word in the first few pages of this book. I explained why it was not considered a curse word in the text and that it was ok to read it. Oftentimes when a word is used commonly it becomes a word with a bad connotation. That has happened to many perfectly fine words in the American English language. El Cid is a classic, and the word is not used as a curse word although the character is insulting the main character. I was a little dismayed by some students reaction to the word and the comments that were made. I hope by Tuesday you will have matured a little more so we can read this classic without all the silliness.
Your assignments are:
Tuesday 8 MAy 2012
1. Read El Cid : pages 2-25.
2. Do the hand-out on El Cid. You do not have to answer the questions in complete sentences.
